USE unveils 2nd Annual University Challenge

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Uganda Securities Exchange has unveiled the 2nd Annual USE University Challenge to impart students with knowledge on how to invest in the stock exchange.

The competition is a simulation of activities that happen around trading in securities – bonds and stocks – listed on the Exchange.

Though the competition is free, each participant will have a virtual start-up capital of Shs 100million, Shs 65million higher compared to that offered last year, to trade with using live data from USE for three months till Jan 11, 2019.

The first four students that will have the highest portfolio with an interactive and good explanation for investment at the end of the competition will receive Shs 10million, Shs 7.5milllion, Shs 5million and Shs 2.5milion worth of shares to start trading.

USE CEO Paul Bwiso said deepening financial inclusion is one of the Exchange’s strategic initiatives and the University Challenge is one way of fostering financial literacy among the young generation. Last year, the competition attracted 220 students.
