Vicky Namuyanja: Uganda’s female pool queen

Which living person do you most admire?

I may not know much about her but I admire Zari Hassan and the way she lives her life. Often times, she has remained strong even which may seem so low for others. I also admire Black Sheep and Nicole Mackenzie as very good Pool players.

What is your greatest extravagance?

That has to do with spending on my children and mother.

What is your current state of mind?

I am happy.

What do you consider the most overrated virtue?

Debating about politics has become the order of the day amongst Ugandans without being mindful of the fact that we may have little to do with changing things in such an environment where there is no freedom of expression.
What does being powerful mean to you?

Power has an element to do with standing the test of time and eventually emerging victorious.

On what occasion do you lie?

Of recent, my lies tend to bend more towards time keeping during tournaments. In a bid to maintain concentration, I tend to throw in a lie; especially when I fail to make it on time.

What do you most dislike about your appearance?

The protruding tummy bothers me a lot.

Which living person do you most despise?

I may not be in position to disclose him but I despise his inability to grant others an opportunity to lead the race.

What is the quality you most like in a man?

Humility, God fearing and hardworking.

What is the quality you most like in a woman?

Soft spoken, God fearing and hardworking.

What or who is the greatest love of your life?

Having my mother and two sons are the best things that have ever happened to me.

When and where were you happiest?

In 2009, when I first won the Easter Cup tournament. I also worked hard coupled with praying day and night to win the Pool Queen title of 2014. It was a very big achievement that I always looked forward to.

I was happy being crowned Pool Queen for the second time in 2016 a title that I still hold until the league is closed. It is not easy to emerge the best from 64 professional female pool players.

Which talent would you most like to have?

I was once good at football but time may not allow for it.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Everything I have is fruit of the sweat from playing pool. I don’t think that I would come this far if it wasn’t for the pool game.

Where would you most like to live?

I love Uganda for being home but wouldn’t mind travelling elsewhere for adventure.

What is your most treasured possession?

I treasure the medals and other gifts I have earned from pool. They stand out as evidence for my efforts in the game.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

Poverty to an extent of not being able to afford a meal a day or even basic health care.

What is your favorite occupation?

Basing on what I have earned from playing pool, it still ranks as my best occupation.

What do you most value in your friends?

There is friendship earned through the game of pool but I value loyalty and truthfulness in friendship.

Who is your hero of fiction?

The Rock in Furious 7 was an all round star who portrayed several images.

Which historical figure do you most identify with?

I admired the life and times of AIGP Felix Kaweesi for his humility and interaction with all classes of people. He painted a new image for community policing. Nelson Mandela was a great fighter for the freedom of the black race.

What is your greatest regret?

When I first confirmed the pregnancy for my first child, as a young girl, I was almost led into termination but when I gave birth, he turns out to be the most loved. Other regrets don’t measure up to the extent of being dwelled on.

How would you like to die?

I don’t want to fall sick for long but go peacefully in my sleep.

What is your motto?

We can all achieve with self-belief.
