🟥 Omukama of Tooro, King Oyo is dead!

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT & URN | The Tooro Kingdom announced that King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV is dead.

The sad news was delivered to the country in an official communication from Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister, Calvin Armstrong Rwomire Akiiki, following a wave of speculation on social media about the death of the 34-year-old king.

Earlier URN reporters who visited the Tooro Kingdom headquarters in Fort Portal were unable to access the premises after security guards said the offices had been closed to the public ahead of the King’s coronation anniversary.

The kingdom has not provided details about the illness or where the King is receiving treatment.

The uncertainty came as Tooro prepares to mark King Oyo’s coronation anniversary, an event that ordinarily attracts cultural leaders, political figures and thousands of subjects and visitors to the kingdom.

It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I announce the passing of His Majesty the Omukama of Tooro, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, at approximately 10:00 p.m. this evening.

This is an immeasurable loss to the Royal Family, the people of Tooro and the nation of Uganda.

The continuity of the Crown is assured. His Majesty leaves behind a Prince as his heir, whose identity will be formally revealed at the appropriate time, in accordance with the traditions and customs of Tooro Kingdom.
