Musonda tames Johnnie Walker Uganda Amateur Open Day 3

Kampala, Uganda | PHILLIP CORRY | Zambian Dominic Musonda tamed the par 72 Kitante course today with a stunning 64 (8 under par) to take full charge of the Johnnie Walker Uganda Amateur Open in its penultimate round.

What should worry his closest rivals, who are 6 and 11 shots behind, is that Musonda actually thinks he can play better.

“My game plan for the day was to return to the clubhouse with a score of -10, but that didn’t happen. However, I am still comfortable with today’s round,” Musonda said on the 18th green after completing today’s round. “Tomorrow’s round will be the same; just go there and play my game.”

Musonda was vicious on the course, opening the first 3 holes with an eagle and two birdies to indicate his intentions for the day

The Nkana Golf Club member registered a bogey-free round with 6 birdies on hole 2, 3, 5, 8, 12, 13 and an eagle  on Hole 1 as he carded a stunning 12 under par score of 204 over 54 holes

His compatriot who dropped to second position, Gilbert Chalwe, is second at 6 under par 210, while Joseph Kasozi is 1 under par 215 going into tomorrow’s final round.

The top 10 amateurs at the Open will play next week in the Pro Open.
