Los Angeles, US | THE INDEPENDENT | South African comedian Trevor Noah paid tribute to two of his Ugandan writers as the team for ‘The Daily Show With Trevor Noah’ picked an award for ‘outstanding variety talk series’ at an historic 75th Emmy Awards.

Noah makes history as the first African and first black to win an Emmy for outstanding talk series, since the category was introduced in 2015. Trevor Noah has another Emmy award, which he earned in 2017 for an Outstanding Short Form Variety Series.

“I want to start by thanking the crazy Africans who followed me to this country, David Kibuuka and Joseph Opio, David Meyer, my partner in crime, the writers and the team, Roy Wood Jr. from the very beginning,” Trevor Noah said on Monday.

The Emmy awards, recognize excellence in television programming and individual achievement for the 2022-2023 season and are the most prestigious honours in the US television industry.

The comedian has been nominated for the Emmy category five times before, but his sixth nomination, for his final season hosting The Daily Show, finally secured him the award.

Trevor Noah exited the The Daily Show September 2022 after seven years as host and a search for his replacement is still ongoing.
