NDA closes 14 pharmacies over licenses

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The National Drug Authority-NDA has closed fourteen additional pharmacies for operating without valid licenses. According to NDA, the closed pharmacies have been operating without valid 2018 licenses contrary to Section 14 of the National Drug Policy and Authority Act.

The closed pharmacies include Mediva Pharmacy located in Mutungo, Safe Script Pharmacy in Mbale, Glory Pharmacy in Mbale Taxi Park, Avion Pharmacy in Kirombe, Kevad Pharmacy located in Kitintale, Wellness Pharmacy in Kiganda, Mubende and others.

The others include Tash Pharma Pharmacy located in Mbuya Kinawataka, Western Pharmacy in Kabwohe, Salient Pharmacy located in Buloba, Rideout (Elton) in Nalukolongo, Pulse Pharmacy in Hoima, Greenfield Pharmacy in Kigumba, Kiryandongo, Previous Pharmacy in Mubende and Kisuki Pharmacy in Bundibugyo.

According to a statement on the NDA official website, the closed pharmacies will be reopened as soon as each acquires a 2018 NDA issued license.

“In case you find any of the above pharmacies open, please ask them to present a 2018 license. The Authority remains committed to ensuring that safe, efficacious and good quality drugs are available to the population of Uganda at all times. The public is urged to remain vigilant and only buy drugs from licensed pharmacies and drug shops.” further reads the statement.

The closure of these 14 pharmacies comes after last month’s closure of Friecca Pharmacy in Wandegeya, a Kampala suburb for also operating without a valid license.
