Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Exim Bank Uganda joined the October edition of the Government’s National Cleaning Day initiative, mobilising its staff to clean the surroundings of its Head Office in Nakasero, Kampala, as part of efforts to promote environmental cleanliness and responsible waste management.

The exercise, led by the Bank’s Chief Executive Officer, Edward Kanyike, saw employees actively participate in sweeping roads and walkways, raking fallen leaves, clearing litter, collecting waste, removing weeds and tidying public spaces within the neighbourhood.

The participation reflects the Bank’s recognition of the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining clean and healthy communities, in line with the Government’s nationwide call for individuals, businesses and institutions to take an active role in improving their surroundings.

Speaking during the exercise, Kanyike said: “A clean environment is a shared responsibility, and organisations have an important role to play in supporting the communities in which they operate. Our participation in National Cleaning Day demonstrates our commitment to putting this responsibility into action, starting with the environment around our Head Office. We encourage other organisations, businesses and residents to embrace this initiative and make cleanliness part of their everyday lives.”

The exercise also featured the handover of cleaning materials to Wacha Rose, the LC1 Chairperson of Shimoni, to support continued community cleaning efforts.

Rose thanked Exim Bank Uganda for the noble gesture and called on other organisations in the area to embrace the National Cleaning Day initiative and contribute to keeping their surroundings clean.

Through its participation, Exim Bank Uganda reinforces the importance of corporate involvement in community development and environmental responsibility. The Bank recognises that building cleaner and healthier communities requires sustained commitment and collective action beyond designated cleaning days.
