Captives freed in USAFI raid found very sick, others defiled – Police

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Police Deputy Spokesperson Patrick Onyango revealed on May 07 that some of the captives rescued during a joint raid by security forces on USAFI mosque have been found to be very sick.

“Seven girls were found to be at various stages of pregnancy. Sadly, eleven of the girls of age bracket 13 to 15 years have complained and it has been confirmed that they were defiled by some of the suspects”, he said some were already receiving treatment.

He however said although there’s a 48 hour rule, the suspects have not yet been taken to court because the demands of the investigations were such that it could not happen so. The arrests were made on April 28 as security operatives pursued suspects in the kidnap and murder of late Susan Magara.

Now, the investigations have gone beyond that case to include cases of defilement, human trafficking, sexual violence and kidnap with intent to demand ransom among others.

154 people were rescued from captivity where 28 are women, 63 girls and 63 boys including three Burundian nationals.
