Entebbe, Uganda | PHILLIP CORRY | Ronald Otile is clearly getting to grips with his Mizuno clubs. He sunk 5 birdies on holes 5, 12, 13, 15 and 18 with a bogey on 14 to take the joint lead with Rodel Gaita, on 4-under par 67 at the end of Day 1 of the MTN Pro Tee today at Entebbe Club.
“The strategy was to play the best that I could to keep the scores low on Day 1; the course changed after the heavy downpour in the morning and made the course more playable,” Otile said.
Entebbe home boy Deo Akope is tied for third with inaugural Pro Tee winner Abraham Ainamani with scores of 3 under par 68 going into tomorrow’s crunch round.
2026 Uganda Pro Open winner Ronald Rugumayo is fifth with 1 under par 70.
A total of 40 professional golfers are playing in the second leg of this Pro Tee series that will conclude in December with a Grand Finale, where the prize kitty will be sh30 million.
This leg the players have a kitty of sh20 million. The POA Sunshine Development tour will follow next September 16-19
