Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Uganda Ladies Golf Union on Friday flagged off the national team for the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy in Abuja, Nigeria, naming Keisha Kagoro, Harsshitha Loganathan and Judith Komugisha to represent the country at the November 2–7 championship.

The tournament will be held at the IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja, the third time Nigeria has hosted the biennial women’s amateur team event, following editions in Lagos in 1996 and Abuja in 2010. Organisers expect teams from about 30 African countries to compete.

ULGU Lady President Rita Apell Akot said the team’s selection reflects a deliberate shift in how Uganda prepares its national representatives.

“Representing Uganda is one of the highest honours we can give our players,” Akot said. “Beyond competing in Abuja, our focus is on building a sustainable pipeline of women golfers who are prepared, competitive and confident enough to represent Uganda at the highest level. The High Performance Programme is central to that journey.”

The Union said selection for major international competitions is now increasingly linked to participation and performance within the UGU High Performance Programme, which is supported by The R&A and the Uganda Golf Union. The programme is designed to identify and develop promising young golfers for regional, continental and international competition.

Kagoro, 17, is the clearest product of that pathway. In August, she won the Botswana Ladies Open at Phakalane Golf Estate, carding rounds of 72, 79 and 76 for a 227 total and a nine-stroke victory, becoming the youngest Ugandan to win a major national open abroad. She is enrolled at ESCA School Wanderers in South Africa as part of the high-performance setup.

ULGU said it continues to work with golf clubs across the country to give national and high-performance players access to training facilities and competitive opportunities. The Union thanked the Uganda Golf Union, clubs, partners, sponsors, coaches, families and the wider golf community for supporting the development of the ladies’ game.

The team departs this weekend for Abuja ahead of the November 2 opening.
