Nominations for LCV by-election in Kamuli are on going

By Julius Odeke

The nomination exercise for the by-elections in both Kamuli and Kween districts are on-going in the respective districts’ registrar’s office.

The Public Relation Officer at Electoral Commission, Charles Ochola says the exercise started smoothly in the morning with the intending candidates who he says can include any Ugandan of a voting age. “Here we are not mandated to disclose the names of the candidates because it’s their rights,” says Ochola.

However, according to reliable sources the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) is fronting Proscovia Salaamu Musumba as the favorite candidate for the Kamuli LCV race.  This will be the third time for Musumba to vie for LCV elections in Kamuli with the two attempts losing it to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate.

Besides having completed a minimum education of Advanced Level standard or its equivalent as a standard requirement for a candidates to get nominated they should present a list of names of fifty registered voters from each of at least two-thirds of the electoral areas, and each voter shall append to that list his or her signature, physical address and voter registration number.

Ochola says the candidates shall be given one month to canvass votes from their electorates and thereafter elections will be held.

He adds that the electoral commission has appointed November 29 as the day when the by-elections in the two districts shall be conducted.
