Mysterious deaths raise fear among residents in Kasese

Kasese, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | There is fear in Kasese municipality following mysterious deaths of residents. It follows the deaths of people within a space of four days last week under unclear circumstances.

The latest victim is 20-year-old Julius Kambere, a resident of Base Camp Upper village whose lifeless body was found near Kilembe golf course. The deceased had deep cuts on the neck and back.

On Wednesday, the body of an unidentified man was also found lying by the roadside in Kihalima cell in Nyakabingo II ward in Kasese central division. The deceased is suspected to have been strangled from a different area and his body dumped in Kihalima.

The same day, the body of Kibaya Onizemus was also found lying in his living room in railway ward. Jaffari Kighutiya, the LC 1 Chairperson of the Base camp says that the string of gruesome killings has triggered panic in the local community.

Yofesi Kule, a resident of the Base Camp says drug abuse and theft have increased in the town. He has asked both political and religious leaders to help fight the crime.

Njemah Hamada, a resident of Kihalima says they are concerned no suspect has been arrested in connection to the murder cases previously recorded in the area. She has called for heightened security patrols at night.

Nixon Baluku from railway ward says there is need for the responsible officers to embark on a massive community policing campaign to reduce cases of domestic violence and drug use.

The Kasese District Police Commander-DPC Collins Kyesimire says that police is investigating all the cases to find the culprits.
