Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | President Yoweri Museveni has been nominated NRM national chairman and presidential flag-bearer for the 2021 elections.
Museveni, who is the Chairman of the ruling party, was confirmed by NRM Elections chief Dr Tanga Odoi, soon after he arrived NRM Secretariat for nomination just after 11am.
“I thank the party that has this morning nominated me as its national chairman and presidential flag-bearer for the 2021 elections. In due course, we shall unveil our detailed plan and manifesto,” he said.
The President whose voice was hoarse said he developed a soar throat over the weekend and the first thing he thought was COVID-19, whose tests he turned negative. However, he was informed that talking for a long time with a face mask can be strenuous.
He cautioned that some people are mixing up issues of fightingwith business, money or jobs where as the issue at hand is between life and death. He cited boda boda riders whose lockdown was lifted on the 27th but had completely abused the guidelines
The nomination by the NRM Parliamentary Caucus paves the way for Museveni, who has been Uganda’s President since 1986, to contest for a sixth term in office. He will be 76 years old in 2021.
