Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Exim Bank Uganda Limited has launched Exim Global Pay, a new cross-border payment solution powered by TerraPay’s global payments infrastructure, enabling individuals and businesses in Uganda to make international payments seamlessly and reliably.

The launch responds to the growing international payment needs of Ugandan consumers and businesses as the country becomes increasingly connected to global trade, education, services and commercial activity. From businesses paying overseas suppliers to families managing education expenses abroad, customers increasingly require payment solutions that combine international reach with the convenience, speed and reliability of their local banking relationship.

Through its partnership with TerraPay, Exim Bank Uganda is strengthening its cross-border remittance capabilities by connecting customers to TerraPay’s global payments network. The collaboration brings together Exim Bank Uganda’s local banking expertise and customer relationships with TerraPay’s international payment infrastructure, helping simplify how remittances move from Uganda to destinations around the world.

TerraPay’s infrastructure is designed to help banks and financial institutions connect to global payment networks without the complexity of building multiple bilateral integrations. This enables Exim Bank Uganda to broaden its international payment capabilities while retaining the trusted customer experience of a local bank.

For businesses, Exim Global Pay can support payments to international suppliers, service providers and commercial partners, helping them participate more efficiently in global value chains. For individuals, the solution supports a range of legitimate international payment needs, including education, health, family support, travel and other personal financial commitments.

Edward Kanyike, Managing Director, Exim Bank Uganda, said: “The introduction of Exim Global Pay reflects a broader shift in customer expectations around international financial transactions. The world has become remarkably connected. A business in Kampala can transact with a supplier thousands of kilometres away, a parent can pay for a child’s education overseas, and an individual can have financial commitments in more than one country. What should not remain complicated is the payment that makes these transactions possible.”

With Exim Global Pay, we are responding to that reality. We want to make international payments a more straightforward experience for our customers, while giving them the confidence that their money can move across borders through a solution built around convenience, reliability and efficiency.”

Samuel Muyingo, Country Manager, TerraPay, said: “Cross-border payments should enable economic participation, not create friction around it. Our partnership with Exim Bank Uganda brings together strong local banking capabilities with TerraPay’s global payments infrastructure, helping customers in Uganda connect more efficiently with the rest of the world. It is another step towards building greater interoperability between local financial institutions and global payment networks, while expanding access to reliable cross-border payment services across Africa.”
