Hebert Kabafunzaki the accused

Kampala, Uganda | GODFREY SSALI | Aya Investment Company chairman Mohammad Hamid, the key witness in the corruption case against Labour State Minister Hebert Kabafunzaki and two others, has appeared before the Anti-Corruption Court but declined to testify, claiming he is not feeling well and had an appointment with his doctor.

Senior Principal State Attorney Babra Kawuma made the communication to court on behalf of the witness who was standing in the witness box for court to take record of him, and she requested for an adjournment.

Defence lawyers led by McDusman Kabega did not object to the adjournment and presiding judge Magret Tibulya adjourned the matter to November 16, 2017 for further hearing.

Minister Kabafunzaki is jointly charged with his political assistant Brian Mugabo and a relative Bruce Lubowa.

The Minister is alleged to have accepted a bribe of Sh5m from the said investor, so as to clear him of allegations of sexual harrasment by his former employee Jamila Opondo.

The offence was allegedly committed on April, 08 this year at Serena Hotel in Kampala.
