Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Uganda Human Rights Commission has condemned suicide bomb attacks that happened on Tuesday in Kampala.

The bomb blasts happened at the Central Police Station and around IPS building along Parliament Avenue.

Government has blamed the attack on the Allied Democratic Forces-ADF. Six people have been confirmed dead, while 36 others were injured. Three of the deceased are said to be the attackers.

In a statement issued by the Commission chairperson Mariam Wangadya, she condemned acts of terrorism and violence calling them cowardly and intended to spread fear and terror among peace loving Ugandans.

She said all life should be treated with utmost respect and dignity, adding that the right to life as enshrines in article 22(1) of the Constitution is inherent and is the most important right without which all other rights cannot be realized.

She urged security to invest every effort in identifying, arresting, and arraigning the perpetrators of the attacks before Courts of law to answer for their actions.

“We implore all responsible government agencies to ensure that the victims receive speedy and appropriate redress. It is the duty of every citizen of Uganda to be law abiding, respect the rights and freedoms of others, and to cooperate with lawful agencies in maintenance of law and order,” added Wangadya in her statement.

Wangadya has also called upon all Ugandans to use peaceful means of resolving any possible conflict as a way to ensure the highest standards of dignity for all.

Following Tuesday’s bombings, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni released a statement in which he said that police had captured one of the terrorists in the area of Katooke, Bwaise with his bomb.

The said terrorist who the president said he later died was identified as Musa Mudasiri. The president said that before Mudasiri died, he revealed to government some very good information. The president identified the bomber of CPS as Mansoor Uthman, and the one of the IGG offices as Abdallah Wanjusi.  All said attackers hold names used by members of the Islamic faith. Museveni referred the attackers to pigs, and said the attackers are victims of manipulation.

“I am referring to the dead terrorists as manipulated victims of confusion. The real pigs are people like Nsubuga, the so-called Sheikh that confused young people at Lweza. If blowing oneself up will send one to Jaanaa, let him blow himself up as an example instead of manipulating young children,” said Museveni in his statement

Wangadya said such people should stop tainting the name of Islam because the faith doesn’t teach its believers to kill innocent people. In-fact, she adds, the punishment in Islam for someone who kills an innocent person is death.
