Covid-19: Village in Apac placed under total lockdown

Apac, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Apac district Covid-19 taskforce has imposed a total lockdown in Akuli village in Atopi parish, Apac sub county for two weeks following the death of a local pastor.

Robert Adoko, who was attached to Pentecostal Assemblies of God-PAG West Lango Pastorate succumbed to Covid-19 and was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Akuli village on Wednesday.

His eight family members also tested positive for the highly contagious virus.

Willy Ekwaro, the Bishop of PAG West Lango Pastorate, says that the deceased had a health complication which could not allow him to wear a facemask hence exposing him to coronavirus.

The Apac Resident District Commissioner Emma Ngabiriano, who also chairs the Covid-19 taskforce says that they decided to impose a total lockdown on the village.

He says they will deploy security to ensure compliance with the lockdown measures.

North Kyoga Region Police Commander, Julius Ceaser Tusungwire has urged the public to adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures-SOPs aimed at containing the spread of the pandemic.

Apac has so far recorded 478 positive COVID-19 cases cumulatively, 194 recoveries and 3 deaths out of the 20,549 people tested according to a situational report released by DHO Dr Francis Leone Oceng.
