Apac district officials in police custody over financial impropriety

Apac, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Apac Chief Finance Officer, Tom Paul Ekwang and three others are in police custody on allegations of swindling Shillings 400 million meant for paying staff salaries in the district.

The others are Tom Adoko, the Human Resource Officer, Sam Atim, the District Education Officer, and Geoffrey Ebong, the Accounting Officer. Police are hunting the former Apac CAO Michael Wanje, currently in Adjumani and David Ocen, a data entry clerk.

It is alleged that the suspects created a list of staff including teachers and health workers claiming that they had missed salary for some months and swindled the money.

Charles Twine, the spokesperson of the Criminal Investigations Directorate says the suspects face a case of misappropriation vide CRB ref. No. 551/2021 at Apac central police station.

Peter Obong Acuda, the speaker Apac district says that he plans to call an emergency council meeting to interdict the affected officers to pave way for investigations.
