Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Angry National Resistance Movement-NRM youth in Gulu on Friday closed the party office in protest over poor leadership.

The more than 50 youth under Acholi NRM Concerned Youth, National Youth Coalition for NRM Mobilization also known as NRM 100 percent and the NRM Media Activists allege that the party leaders in the district have been blocking them whenever they want to meet the President.

They also allege that some funds allocated to party activities in Gulu have been mismanaged.

Led by Stephen Odokorach, the chairperson of Acholi NRM Concerned Youth, they matched to the party office located at Caribbean Grill in Library Parish in Bardege-Layibi division while holding placards with writings like ‘Kick non-sense out of NRM, We should be treated like other youth from other regions, Are we not your Bazukulu? No meeting President, no campaign, among others.

After locking the party office, they matched through streets in Gulu to the Gulu Resident District Commissioner’s office where they handed over the keys to Maj. Santos Okot Lapolo the RDC.

Stephen Odokorach who led the protest said they have been loyal to the party for so long but each time they intend to meet the president, they are blocked by party leaders.

According to Odokorach, they closed the party office because the leaders have been sabotaging the party members and government programs and that before the office is opened, they will have to meet those leaders at the RDC’s office to sort out their differences.

Brenda Acan, the Northern Region Coordinator of National Youth Coalition for NRM Mobilization said since 2014, they have been trying to meet the president but in vain.

Lapolo said the youth are right to complain about issues affecting them but what they did was wrong to lock the party office without informing the police or his office.

He ordered the youth leaders to write names of all those intending to meet the president.
