Soroti, Uganda |  THE INDEPENDENT | The family of the Forum for Democratic Change FDC presidential candidate, Patrick Oboi Amuriat alias POA as he is fondly known has broken silence over his continued harassment by security in the ongoing campaigns.

Amuriat, who is leading a barefoot campaign, has been sprayed with teargas and arrested severally by Police during his campaign trail across the country.

His 89-year-old father, Mzee John Amuriat, says that he is worried about his son’s safety because of being brutalized by security.

Mzee Amuriat says that every time he watches the news, he sees his son being harassed by security agencies, something that disturbs him a lot.

His sister, Rose Alupo observes that whereas security operatives fault his brother for being defiant, the situation in the country has forced him to behave accordingly.

She notes that her brother is a loving and kind-hearted man who cares for the welfare of everyone.

Amuriat’s mother, Rebecca Nansubuga Amuriat says she prays for her son every day given the situation on the ground. She also notes that the barefoot campaign is symbolic of the high levels of poverty where some people don’t have shoes.

Amuriat, who represented Kumi County in parliament for 15 years is following the footsteps of his mentor, Dr. Kizza Besigye, the four-time presidential candidate who has endured security brutality.
