Agriculture Budget increases to 1 Trillion shillings

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Government has allocated 1 trillion shillings for the Agricultural sector in the financial year 2019/2020. Agriculture last year was allocated 893 billion shillings.

The Finance Minister Matia Kasaija on Thursday said that the increment is meant to boost the Agriculture sector.

Kasaija said in the last current financial year, 280 tractors were distributed to farmers countrywide, while the Agricultural credit facility disbursed 332 billion shillings by 31st March 2019 to finance 551 eligible projects

According to Kasaija, the money will enable Government enhance Agricultural research and development in new crop varieties, research on pest and disease control, provision of storage facilities, delivery of quality inputs, mechanization among others.

Five Micro irrigation schemes will be constructed for instance in districts of Alebtong, Kabarole, Katakwi, Ntoroko, and Gomba.

Meanwhile, the tourism sector also got an increase of 193 billion shillings from the 32 billion shillings that was given for the outgoing financial year.
