52 year old man arrested over aggravated defilement

Tom Obote is currently detained at Apac CPS.

Apac, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Police in Apac are holding in their custody a 52-year-old man for allegedly defiling his eight year old biological daughter.

The suspect currently detained at Apac CPS has been identified as Tom Obote, a resident of Ayomjeri village, Atana parish in Apac sub county, Apac district.

The suspect was arrested following a tip-off from the local leaders after the victim disclosed that her father had been defiling her since last year, a month after her mother fled home over domestic violence.

David Okao, the LC I chairperson of Ayom-jeri village says that Obote has been living with his six children in the house after separating with his wife but residents were griped into shock after learning that he has been defiling his own daughter.

On Thursday morning, a team of Ayom-yeri village council rescued Obote from the hands of an angry mob that wanted to take his life and handed him over to police at Apac Central Police Station where he is being detained.

He is charged with aggravated defilement, which is contrary to Section 129 of the Penal Code Act Cap 120 under file number SD Ref 24/30/06/2021 at Apac Central Police Station.

Henry Mpirwe, the Apac acting DPC confirmed the arrest and charging of Obote though he didn’t divulge the details.

The incident comes barely a week after a case of aggravated defilement was registered at Apac district.
