The Woman Member of Parliament for Butaleja district Florence Andiru Nebanda says her focus the moment she joins parliament is to modernize agriculture so that the people can fight poverty in their households.

In an interview with The Independent she says agriculture is one of the projects her late sister Cerinah Nebanda was looking to uplift so that farmers can benefit highly from the farm proceeds.

Butaleja district is reputed for the cultivation of rice that is supplied to various parts of the country.  It is home to the Doho Rice Irrigation scheme, however, most of the rice produced is consumed domestically hence fetching low income for the farmers. At the moment the scheme is undergoing reconstruction so as to boost the production of rice that will cater for a bigger market.

The MP elect says she is going to consult the elders in her district so that they guide her on what projects she has to start with moments she joins parliament.  “Government is ready to develop this district and I will lobby stakeholders to come in and render a helping hand that will ensure that my people stand to benefit from social infrastructure,” she added.

Nebanda says she is going to unite different groups of people who got divided in the cause of campaigns so that they can forge a way forward.

The former contenders while in their campaigns said that the Banyole have been divided into various groups that are loyal to the top leaders such as Emmanuel Dombo MP for Bunyole East and Dorothy Hyuha who is currently an ambassador in Dar es Salaam.

Nebanda also points out that the eight classroom block that her sister never completed shall be finished to ensure that pupils are housed in classrooms and not under trees or in dilapidated structures.
