THIS WEEK: Police deep in debt, seek government intervention

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | At a function held at the marine police headquarters in Kigo on Feb25, Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura revealed that the force is grappling with Shs125billion debt for utilities.

Kayihura who asked government to intervene and write off the debt told Minister for Internal Affairs Gen. Jeje Odongo that most of the accumulated money is for water, electricity and police uniforms among others.

At the same event where the strategic policing plan was launched, Minister Odong urged the police to work on its public image saying it has been cited in a lot of wrong doing something that Kayihura rubbished saying the force is under attack by people seeking their own selfish gains.
