Vivo Energy launches new fuels

Gilbert Assi

Kampala, Uganda | JULIUS BUSINGE | Fuel distributor, Vivo Energy Uganda has launched new fuels with additives to give motorists best and extra levels of performance. Speaking to motorists during a tour of the company’s depot in Namuwongo near Kampala city on Nov.12, Gilbert Assi, the company’s managing director said the new additives are contained in Shell Fuelsave Unleaded, Shell FuelSave Diesel and Shell V-Power.

Assi said that motorists will detect the difference in the fuels when they realise that they are doing more kilometers for the same amount of fuel compared to experiences before. He also said that new additives make the engine last longer and motorists spend less on maintenance.

Assi said that the new fuels have been enriched with dynaflex technology which is designed to help combat the buildup of dirt deposits in car engines. The new fuels are currently sold at some fuel stations with a plan to sell it to other parts of the country in the near future.

“The new Shell FuelSave Unleaded helps reduce engine friction and has been demonstrated during driving from city to the highway,”Asssi said adding, the new fuels would not change pump prices.

In a related development, Assi urged government to be more visible while dealing with players who adulterate fuel at the expense of consumers and genuine industry players.

“A liberalised market requires government to do more controls,” he said.

This new development comes at a time pump prices for petrol are quoted at an average of Shs4200 for petrol and Shs3,800 for diesel compared to an average of Shs3,700 and Shs3,400 last year for the same category of fuels.

Increasing global oil prices and new tax measures by government locally are cited as factors behind the price increase.

The new prices are mostly quoted by leading industry players including Vivo energy. Assi said high prices at their filling stations are in line with big investments made in technology and related safety and innovation services.
