Uganda’s political parties share Shs3 billion

The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development has confirmed it has released Shs3billion for political parties with representation in Parliament.

The Electoral Commission Spokesperson Jotham Taremwa said the money had been wired to four political parties that are also members of the Inter Party Organization for Dialogue (IPOD).

National Resistance Movement took the highest share of more than Shs2billion while the Forum for Democratic Change, the second biggest party got Shs300million.

The Democratic Party bagged Shs126million, with the Uganda People’s Congress receiving Shs51million.

This is the second time government is releasing money to political parties. Last year parties shared Shs10billion.
