Why Ugandan celebrity chef Wanyama is no fan of rolex

Which living person do you most admire?

I admire Pastor Isaac Kiwewesi of Kansanga Miracle Center. Most of the things people like about me I’ve learnt them from him like eloquence and his spiritual life.

What is your greatest extravagance?

I can spend on anything so long as it’s nice.

What is your current state of mind?

I am so excited that sometimes I wake up and sit on my bed and I am like Oh God is this me? My school is close to three years, and my diner is in the final stages to completion.

What do you consider the most overrated virtue?

People overrate money but it’s not everything because there are many other factors you need to make money. For instance money can’t buy you genuine friends but genuine friends can help you make money.

On what occasion do you lie?

I would lie to avoid trouble.

What do you most dislike about your appearance?

None

Which living person do you most despise?

I never look down on people because everyone is important in a certain way.

What is the quality you most like in a man?

A real man should be one who keeps their word and have the courage to take the decision that everybody else will be shying away from.

What is the quality you most like in a woman?

A woman should accept that she’s a woman. There’s no reason she should fight to be like a man.

I can’t tell

What or who is the greatest love of your life?

My wife and my only daughter

When and where were you happiest?

The day when my wife introduced me to her family and the whole world was my happiest. Having studied in 13 different schools in 13 years says something about my character – that I am not an easy person to deal with. For someone to accept me as I am priceless and in fact I got introduced on my birthday.

Which talent would you most like to have?

I wish I had a voice to sing and perform to the crowd.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I don’t do things in a rush and sometimes I take a little longer than I am supposed to. It wouldn’t do me bad if became a little faster.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

I’ve made myself a voice in the nation’s food industry. I am able to help people achieve their passion and dreams as chefs. There are some people who have a talent but it hasn’t been polished.  I’ve created that avenue for them to realise this dream.

If you were to die and come back as a person or a thing, what would it be?

I would like to come back as me but doing better than what I am doing now.

Where would you most like to live?

I’ve travelled but there’s no place better than Uganda. My worry now is to build a home that will make me feel this is my home.

What is your most treasured possession?

You can take everything and leave me with my TV. Even when I was robbed, the thing I first bought the next morning was a TV.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

The most miserable person is one who has not yet discovered who they are and what they can do.

What is your favourite occupation?

I love sports. Because of football I stopped paying fees in senior one. I wish I had played all the way up to the premier league or represented my country like the others are doing.

What is your most marked characteristic?

I am neat.

What do you most value in your friends?

I want people who believe in themselves because if you have confidence in yourself it will be easy for you to believe in me.

Who are your favourite writers?

I enjoy Joyce Meyer’s work because her books will give you wisdom to live each day with a purpose.

Who is your hero of fiction?

I like Sean Connery. He has won many awards and he stands out in every movie he features in.

Which historical figure do you most identify with?

I don’t so much relate with people in history though sometimes I read about them and get inspired.

Who are your heroes in real life?

I am a believer in the mantra ` do not tell me what you can do but show me what you have done’. Pastor Isaac Kiwewesi has done great. He is my real life hero.

What is it that you most dislike?

I don’t want to commit my time, effort and skill into making you a meal and you don’t like it.

How would you like to die?

When my time is up I want to rest. I don’t want to fall sick or die in an accident.

What is your motto?

Life is what you make it.
