Uganda team to World Athletics U-20 Champs takes off today

Nairobi, Kenya | THE INDEPENDENT | Uganda will be represented by a 10-member team at the World Athletics under 20 championship slated for August 17-22, 2021 in Nairobi, Kenya.

Namayo Mawerere, the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) publicity Secretary said the team will fly out on Sunday aboard Uganda Airlines to Nairobi.

The team will be led by Olympian Prisca Chesang who participated in 5000m race finishing 15th in heat one at the just concluded Tokyo Olympics.

According to Mawerere the team has spent over one month in Kapchorwa preparing for the championship. He believes they have had enough training to face off with the world’s best junior athletes.

In the last edition of the championship that took place in Finland, Uganda picked two silver medals through Jacob Kiplimo  in the 10000m, while Peruth Chemutai won another silver in women’s 3000m steeplechase.

Scarlet Chebet (5000m), Peter Maru (1500m), Dismus Yeko (3000m), Dan Kibet (3000m), Leonard Chemutai (3000mSc), Toroitich Ndiwa (3000mSc), Rodgers Kibet (5000m), Martin  Kiprotich (5000m), Tarsis Orogot (100m/200m) and Prisca Chesang Prisca (3000m/5000m).
