Two killed by unknown assailants in raid on a Chinese wood factory

Kassanda, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Two people have been confirmed dead in Kassanda district after unknown assailants allegedly raided and made away with unspecified amount of money from a Chinese wood factory.

Police confirmed the dead as Police Probationer Constable-PPC, Ronald Amuku, attached to Wamala regional police and one of the suspects yet to be identified.

Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson ASP, Rachael Kawala, said that the deceased policeman and two others who are nursing severe injuries at Mityana hospital were guarding at the Chinese Ply Wood factory located at Kigalama, Kassanda district.

She identified the injured policemen as Peter Muwanguzi and Obed Lukundo, noting that the bodies of the deceased were taken to Mityana hospital for post-mortem as investigations into the matter commence.

According to Kawala, the incident happened in the wee hours of Saturday where a group of about 15 unknown assailants attacked the factory where three policemen were on duty.

Kawala said that there was a scuffle between the guarding officers and the assailants before they made away with unspecified amount of money.

“Though we have recovered a gun in Myanzi which we believe to have been the one stolen from our officers, we are going to take it for further scrutiny to see whether it was the one used in the killing,” she added.
