Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Trial for a case in which former Boda Boda 2010 Patron Abdallah Kitatta is accused of offences related to unlawful possession of military hardware will commence on April 23, the army court ruled on Mar.19.

Kitatta who is being accused together with 10 others has since been detained at the Makindye Military Police Detention Center but on Monday his lawyers led by Shaban Sanywa asked that their client be transferred to a government prison considering his medical condition.

“We ask that he is transferred to either Luzira or Kigo so that he can get treatment,”Sanywa asked, a request that was never granted by court saying that the detention center has facilities that can cater for his condition.

Kitatta and his colleagues were arrested in January after they were found in possession of a pistol without a valid license and a rifle in addition to 20 rounds of ammunition. They were also found in possession of military equipment including headgear and uniforms which are a monopoly of the defense forces.  The accused could serve death and life imprisonment sentences if found guilty of committing the offences.
