The leading opposition figure in Tanzania’s elections and former Prime Minister, Edward Lowassa has filed an official petition against the National Electoral Commission. Lowassa has also withdrawn his tallying agents citing irregularities in the ongoing announcements of the presidential results.

In other news, the European Union Observers noted that the elections were not credible while the Zanzibar elections were annulled. In the provisional results, John Pombe Magufuli of CCM stands at 7,440,415 votes while Lowassa of CHADEMA stands at 5,460,000 votes.
