Suspected killer of Ruharo police OC shot dead in Mbarara

Mbarara, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Security personnel in Mbarara on Tuesday shot dead an army deserter alleged to be behind numerous murders and robberies in the area.

Dick Tushemereirwe was killed from Rugarama cell, Biharwe division, Mbarara City North.

Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi region police spokesperson says Tushemereirwe has been on the police’s wanted list.

According to Kasasira, Tushemereirwe is one of the suspects who allegedly killed Richard Agaba, the Officer-in-charge of Ruharo police post. The police also believe that he was behind the robbery of For God Electronic Shop in Rukungiri.

Kasasira says that Tushemereirwe was found hiding in Rugarama cell. He explains that when security personnel attempted to arrest him, he tried to flee, but was shot dead.

He says that Tushemereirwe was the gang leader of the group that has been terrorizing people in Mbarara and Rukungiri. The others are Dominic Twinomugisha and Kasim Ayebazibwe, who are in police custody.

On Monday, the police in Rukungiri recovered the gun belonging to Agaba who was shot dead by armed robbers who had attacked Step Up bar in Kiyanja cell, Ruharo ward.

According to Col. James Mwesigye, the Resident City Commissioner Mbarara, the recovered gun was used in the robbery of For God Electronics. During the robbery, one person was shot dead and another injured.
