South African golf professionals here for Pearl of Africa tour

Entebbe, Uganda | PHILLI CORRY | The Pearl of Africa Golf Series (POA) that starts today in Entebbe has been given an international boost with the arrival of 21 professionals who play on the Sunshine Tour. The POA is an official World Ranking Tournament.

The tournament’s day one will pit Uganda’s elite amateur golfers against professionals as they seek to gain World Rankings points.

South African-based Ronald Rugumayo, winner of the Uganda Open and MTN Pro Tee last week, will be leading the country’s contingent. Other Ugandan professionals to watch will be Grace Kasango, Deo Akope, Rodel Gaita, David Kamulindwa, Abraham Ainamani, Vincent Byamukama, Marvin Kibirige, Silver Opio, and Phillip Kasozi.

Professional golfers from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Nigeria, England, South Africa, Botswana and Eswatini are taking part in this tournament. The total prize money is Sh78 million shillings. The tournament is sponsored by Exim Bank, Vivo Energy, and the Uganda Tourism Board.
