UPDF: Soldier at Makindye Barracks shoots seven dead

BREAKING NEWS: Reports just in indicate at least eight people are dead after a shooting incident at Makindye Military Barracks in Kampala, Thursday afternoon. The barracks was sealed off soon after to allow investigations to take place.

The first reports on the incident have come from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), who say a soldier at Makindye Military Barracks killed seven people.  The soldier, who was also reportedly shot dead,  is believed to have lost his mind.

 

(UPDF) spokesman Paddy Ankunda said all those killed were wives and children of soldiers living in the barracks.

“Sergent Obua Isaac of military police Makindye has just gone bonkers, killed seven people,” the UPDF spokesman tweeted, adding, “Sgt Obua Isaac, the killer himself has been Put out of Action.”

“Four women, three children among the victims of the Makindye shooting. One of the females is a soldier.”

Military police spokesperson Edward Birungi told NBS that while Police are investigating, they think the solider must have acted out of the influence of drugs.

The bodies of those killed have been taken to Mulago hospital.
