Seven incumbent MPs defeated in Kigezi region

In Rukiga District, Herbert Kabafunzaki, the former State Minister for Labor, Employment and Industrial Relations was defeated by Independent Roland Bish Ndyomugyenyi

Kigezi, Uganda |  THE INDEPENDENT | Seven Incumbent Members of Parliament lost their seats in polls held on Thursday. They include Andrew Aja Baryayanga, the incumbent Kabale Municipality MP who was defeated by Forum For Democratic Change (FDC) party candidate Dr Thaddeus Nicholas Kamara 

According to results released by the District Returning officer Ahmed Nadulli Musisi, Kamara polled 6,399 votes to defeat Baryayanga who got 5,763 votes. Sheik Kassim Kamugisha, the NRM candidate in the race got 3,301 votes. 

In Rubanda district, Denis Sabitti Bamwoya Ndyanabo, the incumbent MP and NRM candidate for Rubanda West county was defeated by businessman Moses Kamuntu Mwongyera, with 22,238 against  2,061 votes, according to results released by the District Returning Officer Annet Ashaba.

In Rukiga District, Herbert Kabafunzaki, the former State Minister for Labor, Employment and Industrial Relations was defeated by Independent Roland Bish Ndyomugyenyi after polling 10,911 votes. Kabafunzaki got 9,623, while in the same race, the NRM candidate  Addison Kakuru got 10,550 votes, and the FDC candidate Stephen Nebye Rutaro got 628 votes.

In Kisoro district, the incumbent District Woman MP Rose Kabagenyi was also defeated by NRM flag bearer Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi who polled 60,849 votes against Kabagenyi’s 4,384 votes. Independents Juliet Musanase got 3,421 votes and Peninnah Kanyange got 677 votes.

In Bufumbira South Sam Bitangaro, lost to NRM’s Alex Seruganda who polled 22,423 votes against Bitangaro’s 18,691. Independents Erasmus Mugisha Kibombobombo polled 317 votes while NUP’s Viatori Uzabakiru trailed with 96 votes.

Similarly, Sam Byibesho lost the Kisoro Municipality seat to NRM candidate Paul Buchana. Buchana was declared the winner after polling 3,568 votes while Byibesho got 3,387 votes. Tana Mukakwaya of NUP party got 106 votes while Independent Enock Mugisha trailed with 18 votes.

In Kanungu district, incumbent district Woman MP Elizabeth Kalungi was defeated by Patience Kinshaba Nkunda. Nkunda was declared the winner by Ferdinand Mulekezi,  Kanungu district Returning officer after polling 47,967 votes. Karungi got 15,939 votes.

Independents Honest got 16,043, Shantal Murekattete got 3,962 votes, Charity Mbabazi got 1,074, and FDC’s Maclean Asiimwe Mbassa got 1,584 votes.
