Ride Safe Uganda and Bikers extend support to injured Boda Boda rider

An injured boda boda rider explains his plight

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT |  Ride Safe Uganda, together with a group of concerned bikers, has extended support to a boda boda rider who has been unable to work after suffering a serious road accident.

The rider, a father of two and husband, has been down for some time after sustaining a broken right thigh that required surgery. With his mobility affected and his source of income interrupted, the accident has placed a heavy burden on his young family.

In response, Ride Safe Uganda mobilised support and visited him at his home, delivering basic household supplies and home-use materials to help the family through this difficult period.

The visit was part of Ride Safe Uganda’s wider effort to highlight the human impact of motorcycle accidents and to encourage a stronger culture of care, responsibility, and road safety within Uganda’s riding community.

A Family Facing a Difficult Moment

For many boda boda riders in Uganda, the motorcycle is not just a means of transport. It is a source of daily income, family survival, and dignity. When a rider is involved in a serious accident, the effects often go beyond physical pain.

In this case, the injured rider’s condition has left him unable to continue working as he recovers from surgery. With two children and a wife depending on him, the family has had to adjust to a painful and financially challenging situation.

Ride Safe Uganda said the visit was meant to remind the family that they are not alone.

“This is one of the reasons we keep talking about motorcycle safety,” the team said. “Behind every accident is a family, children, bills, school needs, rent, food, and a person who still deserves hope. We came to stand with him as fellow riders and as a community.”

Bikers Come Together for a Cause

The charity visit was supported by other bikers who joined Ride Safe Uganda in contributing supplies and showing solidarity with the injured rider.

According to the group, the support from fellow bikers reflects the positive side of Uganda’s motorcycle community — one built not only around riding, but also brotherhood, compassion, and responsibility.

Ride Safe Uganda said such acts of support are important because many injured riders suffer quietly after accidents, especially when they lose their ability to earn a daily income.

The team hopes that more riders, motorcycle groups, brands, and well-wishers can come together to support accident victims while also promoting safer riding habits.

Road Safety Beyond Awareness

Ride Safe Uganda is a motorcycle safety awareness initiative using digital media, community engagement, and rider-led campaigns to promote responsible riding in Uganda.

Through its TikTok platform, website, and YouTube channel, the initiative shares safety messages on helmet use, visibility, defensive riding, overtaking discipline, protective gear, and responsible road behavior.

However, the team says road safety should not stop at online awareness. It must also include community action and support for those affected by road accidents.

“Motorcycle accidents are not just statistics,” Ride Safe Uganda noted. “They affect real people. They affect families. When a rider goes down, the whole household can be shaken. That is why we believe safety awareness and community support must move together.”

Promoting a Safer Riding Culture

Uganda has a large and growing motorcycle community, including boda boda riders, delivery riders, adventure riders, superbike riders, and everyday commuters. Ride Safe Uganda believes that every group has a role to play in creating safer roads.

The initiative encourages riders to wear proper helmets, use reflectors, avoid reckless overtaking, respect other road users, and make safer decisions on the road.

The recent visit to the injured boda boda rider also served as a reminder that road safety is not only about protecting oneself, but also protecting families and communities from preventable suffering.

Call for Partnerships

Ride Safe Uganda is calling on individuals, companies, motorcycle groups, road safety organisations, and well-wishers to support similar community initiatives.

The group hopes to expand its work through helmet awareness campaigns, reflector distribution, rider education, accident victim support, school outreach, and digital road safety campaigns.

As the injured rider continues his recovery journey, Ride Safe Uganda says the visit was only one step in a bigger mission: building a motorcycle community that rides responsibly, supports one another, and values life on the road.
