President Museveni orders closure of Makerere University

President Yoweri Museveni has this evening ordered the immediate closure of Makerere University until further notice. He said this is to guarantee safety of persons and property following a lecturers strike.

The lecturers have been on strike over unpaid allowances, and they were today joined by students who were demanding lectures. There was a clash most of today between the students and police who have sealed of the campus.

I have this evening ordered for immediate closure of Makerere University until further notice to guarantee safety of persons and property.
