President Museveni hails Kadaga for accepting ministerial job

Rebecca Kadaga takes oath of office to serve the people of the East African Community.

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has hailed former Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga for being a modest and person of humility.

Kadaga took oath as the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of East African Affairs at a short swearing in function held at State House Nakasero yesterday.

Kadaga missed the swearing in ceremony held last week for unknown reasons. Up to 17 Ministers missed out on the swearing in ceremony with many treating COVID-19.

Museveni says that although Kadaga was third in the order of precedence by being the Speaker of Parliament, when he spoke to her about re-organisation in the party, she accepted without getting an explanation.

According to Museveni, this shows humility, and like the Bible says, blessed are the humble, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs, quoting Mathew chapter five. Museveni says that for people who are smart, that is the thing to do.

“They are flexible, positions are not the important thing, the important thing is the mission,” says Museveni.

He says that the issue is not about the position, but the mission. He thanked Kadaga for accepting the position which is considered lower.

Giving an example of the former Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew, Museveni said after he mentored young people, some of those people rose to be the Prime Minister and Lee Kuan became a senior Minister until he died.

Museveni said that Kadaga has worked a lot for government from her early years in leadership.
