Police prefer criminal trespass charges against Pakistan national

Ali Asim is under police custody.

Kikuube, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The police in Kikuube has preferred charges of criminal trespass against a Pakistan national who was arrested inside Hoima Sugar limited factory premises on Wednesday.

Ali Asim, 23, allegedly gained entry into the sugar factory premises situated in Kiswaza village, Munteme parish, Kizirafumbi sub county posing as an expert. While inside, the factory management became suspicious of him.

Security personnel manning the factory tasked him to identify himself, and realized that he was not a worker at the factory. He was immediately arrested and taken to Kikuube central police station for further interrogations.

While at Kikuube police, Asim was questioned about how he gained entry into the sugar factory premises and how he came to the district.

According to Asim, he travelled with his uncle from Kampala by taxi and spent a night in Hoima city and later headed to Hoima Sugar factory premises using a boda boda. Asim is said to have been in the company of another person who has since been on the run.

He claims that his uncle whose names could not be revealed was in Kikuube district but he didn’t know the specific place.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson says police has preferred criminal trespass charges against the Pakistan national for allegedly entering the premises of Hoima sugar limited factory, as interrogations into his alleged entry into the district are ongoing.

Hakiza further adds that they are also hunting for his accomplice.
