Zombo, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Saint Aloysius Nyapea College in Zombo District has received a fresh coat of paint thanks to the Association of Old Boys-OBs. The association through its “National Chapter” used the nationwide lockdown to refurbish dilapidated dormitories and classroom blocks.
Dr. Amos Nyathirombo, the national president of the College’s Old Boys’ told URN that they want to revive the school to its former glory. The association has partnered with the administration to fix over 50 double decker beds, renovate 4 dormitories at Shillings 120 million and install pavers on walk ways at Shillings 25 million.
As part of their efforts to fight against the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), the Old Boys also donated an assortment of items including washing soap worth Shillings 2.6 million to 25 none teaching staff and 15 teachers whom are not on the government payroll.
Bro. Paul Nantinda, the Head teacher of the College commended the positive work and contributions of the OBs. He said. “OBs have truly joined in the most serious way,” he said.
Nantinda disclosed that the OBs are offering scholarships to 30 students at Nyapea on top of mobilizing students to enroll at the school and organizing an annual school day to create visibility promote unity and boost enrollment.
Founded by the Catholic Missionary Brothers in 1938, Saint Aloysius College has been among the best performing old schools in Uganda. The college started deteriorating in the 1970’s when Catholic missionaries left management to government.
