Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT  | Each of the 500 National Resistance Movement-NRM party youths who pitched camp at State House Entebbe on Monday afternoon demanding to see the president received shillings 30,000 to leave.

Led by Henry Kajubi, the youth stormed State House to deliver a petition to president, Yoweri Museveni detailing the challenges they have gone through working with the NRM Secretariat since 2016.

They claimed that they have tried in vain to see Museveni through various party leaders in vain. The youths stormed State House expecting to see Museveni after the weekly cabinet meeting.

However, by 9pm the youths couldn’t access the president as none of them could be granted access without an appointment.

They decided to pitch camp on the access route to State House so as to speak to the president. The NRM General Secretary, Justine Kasule Lumumba showed up later and asked the youths to hand her their petition for transmission to the president.

She offered each of the youth shillings 30,000 as transport refund. Despite receiving the money, the youth leaders demanded to meet the president and were given an appointment of December 17th, 2019.

Lumumba assured the youth leaders that the President had received their grievances and is willing to meet them December 17th, 2019 when they are well organized.

It is not the first time the youths are pitching camp at State house Entebbe demanding to see the president. In February 2019, the same youths stormed State House demanding to see the president but were turned away.

They later mobilised and pitched camp at State house Nakasero in Kampala demanding to meet the president. They were forced out of state house premises by the president’s security detail after becoming rowdy.
