Museveni to swear in new cabinet today

By Independent Reporter

President Yoweri Museveni will today swear in the new ministers at State House in Entebbe.

Top on the list of the ministers to be sworn in include woman MP for Kayunga district Erios Aidha Nantaba whose appointment as State Minister for Lands was questioned on her competence by the Appointments Committee headed by Speaker Rebecca Kadaga.

However, the Committee early last week cleared the Kayunga Women MP’s appointment after she was advised by the president to pen an apology over the statements she uttered against the appointment’s committee.

However, President Museveni has replaced Prof. Tarsis Kabwegyere who had initially been named Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Affairs with Hon John Nasasira.

Prof. Kabwegyere was named Minister of State General Duties in the Office of the Prime Minister while Nasasira will head the Ministry of Gender.

Kabwegere’s appointment faced massive resistance from women activists who argued that he had in the past vehemently opposed the Domestic Relations Bill that was later split into the Marriage and Divorce Bill.

The new faces in cabinet who are due to be sworn in Tuesday include Frank Tumwebaze (Presidency), Richard Todwong (Minister without Portfolio in-charge of Political Mobilization), Nantaba Aidah (Lands), and Ernest Kiiza (Minister of State for Bunyoro Affairs).

Others include Rosemary Najjemba (Minister of State for Urban Development), Sarah Kataike Ndoboli (Minister of State for Health) and Shem Bagaine (Minister of State for East African Affairs).
