Mubende, Uganda |  THE INDEPENDENT | Mubende Municipality Mayor Eng. Innocent Ssekiziyivu has retained the National Resistance Movement Flag after party primaries held on Monday. Ssekiziyivu has polled 7,801 votes against his main challenger Dennis Zziwa’s 3,925, according to the declaration form signed by the district registrar Moses Kiberu.

Although Zziwa has led the race at some of the polling stations like at the Mayor’s garden in the centre of Mubende town where he polled 332 votes more than Sekiziyivu’s 42 votes, he trailed in most of the other polling places.

After the declaration of results, Sekiziyivu said that he would put more emphasis on extending clean and piped water in the municipality if voters entrusted him with the vote in the forthcoming general election.

Sseiziyivu is now awaiting competition from independent and opposition candidates in the race. However, NRM voters in the area have raised concern that many of them were disenfranchised and could not take part in the election of flag holders. The complaints were mainly from the areas of Kasawo A, and Kiryango, among others.

Joseph Mukwaya, one of the area residents says that he was ordered out of the line at Kasawo A on an allegation that he was not known among the NRM supporters.

In Mityana Municipality, incumbent Ndyanabo Esther sailed through unopposed to represent NRM in the general elections come 2021.
