Ministry to set up committee to analyze school fees charges

Responding to complaints by parents over exorbitant school charges, Minister of Education Janet Museveni has said that her Ministry is set to appoint an independent committee to critically analyze what schools are currently charging, a thing that will give them direction on an appropriate action to be taken.

“As the committee carries out an in-depth study to guide on school charges, the Ministry will be utilizing the information received from schools to regulate school fees.  No school budget will be approved if it contains unauthorized school fees increments”, she said on Feb.22 directing both private and government schools to submit their fees structures for the last three years to the respective commissioners in the Ministry not later than Mar.10.

The First lady also complained that the law requires secondary schools to have their budget estimates approved but many have not been respecting it a thing that has led to some school administrators cheating.
