The Independent Uganda: You get the Truth we Pay the Price
Namulonge, Uganda | PHILLIP CORRY | The Mary Louise Simpkins Memorial Golf Club in Namulonge will go green at the third edition of the Home Coming Golf tournament on Friday, October 9.
Organisers of the tournament who have staked for the first two prizes for a Suzuki Across and a Yamaha Bike have gone for a Green theme.
“As part of our keeping our environment free from plastics, we have decided that all participants will be using wooden tees and no plastic ones, as we highlight a green theme on the course,” Kenneth Tumusiime, tournament director, said at the launch.
The homecoming tournament brings together men’s and ladies’ golfers who started their careers at this 9-hole course at the government crop research center.
“This tournament is organised to attract the Old boys and girls of Namulonge to celebrate the heritage of the club but at the same time update members of the development plans of the club,” Herbert Kamuntu, chairman of the club said.
The club has plans to upgrade the course to 18 holes with 40 acres available for that development in hand.
For the first time there is a prize of two that is a Suzuki Across Hybrid and a Yamaha Bike, for any golfer who hits an ace on the course with the prizes provided by Cfao Mobility and Afrisafe Insurance Brokers.
“We want to create experiences around this homecoming event by providing a Suzuki Across Hybrid which is in line with our vision of supporting, environmentally friendly solutions,” Howard Wodomal, CFAO Mobility Commercial Manager said at the launch.
Close to 200 golfers are expected at this tournament that is sponsored by CFAO Mobility, Afrisafe Insurance Brokers, Castle Lite and Kachain Solutions.
