Kasingye summons West Nile police officers

Chief Political Commissar Asan Kasingye.

Arua, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Chief Political Commissar of the Uganda Police Force Asan Kasingye, has summoned police heads in the West Nile over reports of incompetence.

During a media briefing on Tuesday at Arua Central Police Station, Kasingye told journalists that all police officers must account for the tasks they were assigned to in the region.

The officers summoned include District Police Commanders, OC CIDs, Crime Intelligence Officers, Professional Standards Unit, Police Human Rights Officers, Traffic and Welfare Officers from the 13 districts of West Nile.

According to Kasingye, investigations into crimes, human rights violations, and professional misconduct of the police among other issues in West Nile are still low and require solutions.

He also warned the police officers against indulging in acts of corruption and complaining of being posted to serve in places where they cannot make extra money from the public.

Kasingye’s tour of the West Nile region follows reports of increased cases of police misconduct ranging from connivance, extortion, bribery to the negligence of duty among others and public uproar especially in the districts of Pakwach, Zombo, Arua, Yumbe, Moyo and Adjumani.

Josephine Angucia, the police spokesperson for West Nile said the visit of Kasingye will help the officers to put to his attention issues concerning their welfare and other work-related hindrances since the West Nile region borders two other countries that have peculiar security challenges.

“It is good he has come to listen to us and we expect the officers in the districts of the region to tell him their work challenges so that they can be addressed,” said Angucia.
