Kaabong, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The leadership of Kaabong General Hospital has called for the relocation of the facility built-in 2011, saying it is sinking in a wetland.

Elevated from a health center IV, Kaabong General Hospital sits on land belonging to the National Forestry Authority-NFA.

According to the hospital management, NFA has asked the district leadership to identify an alternative to swap with the one hosting the facility.

The hospital management has since closed the theater, stores and old mortuary because many of the buildings are sinking.

John Baptist Omutogor, the acting medical superintendent of Kaabong General Hospital says that the land which hosts the facility isn’t suitable.

Robert Adebuason, the Deputy Chief Administration Officer (CAO) Kaabong district pleaded with MPs on parliamentary COVID-19 taskforce, which is accessing government responses to the pandemic to help resolve the issues affecting the facility.

Kole North MP Samuel Ocuti Opio, said the situation at Kaabong hospital is alarming, saying there is need for total renovation if possible.

Emmanuel Ainebyona, the Health Ministry spokesperson says Kaabong district authorities need to bring the matter to the attention of the ministry officially.

“They need to alert the Ministry formally, but since they are with a task force on health, perhaps this will be presented in the report of the MPs for the Ministry of Health to take it up,” Ainebyona said.
