Hunt on for counter terrorism officer who shot civilian in bar brawl

Arua, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Police in Arua have launched a manhunt for their own following a shooting incident in

Lemo trading center Logiri sub-county in Arua district.

The suspect is Assistant Inspector of Police, Fred Acedri, who is attached to the Counter-Terrorism Police in Para. He is wanted for shooting Michael Edema on the left thigh following a misunderstanding in a bar on Monday morning.

Edema is nursing gunshot wounds at Arua Regional Referral hospital. Josephine Angucia, the West Nile Region police spokesperson, says Acedri fled into hiding after the shooting.

This is the second incident within a space of two days a police officer shooting a civilian in a brawl. On Sunday night, Medard Asiimwe, the Wakiso District Police commander-DPC shot dead John Kalumba alias Kenzo while enforcing the nighttime curfew.

Asiimwe opened fire when he and three other officers raided a pub in Nsangi central zone to question revealers why they were drinking past the night curfew time, which resulted in altercations.
