Health worker arrested for alleged theft of health centre beds

Tororo, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | A health worker attached to Nagongera health center IV in Tororo district is in trouble for allegedly selling beds belonging to the facility.

Police picked up Sebastian Opepe on a tip-off from local leaders who traced the stolen items to where the suspect had sold them.

Moses Mugwe, the Bukedi South Regional Police spokesperson confirmed the arrest of the health worker saying they have charged him with theft of government property.

Mzee Obbo Oketch, the Nagongera town council LC V councilor accused the suspect of not only stealing medical equipment but also mining stones as well as cutting trees within the health facility.

Nagongera town council LC 3 chairperson Pius Opio has called upon district authorities to intervene and save his voters from health workers who have turned into thieves.

He says that the suspect has for a long time been threatening to inject leaders who have been monitoring his actions with poison.
