Government allocates six valley tanks to Teso sub region

Amuria, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Ministry of Water and Environment has allocated six valley tanks to Teso sub region with the aim of mitigating floods in the region.

Rogers Masaba, the Assistant Manager Water for Production in Eastern region said that the valley dams have been allocated to three districts of northern Teso. Amuria district will have one valley tank, two for Kapelebyong district and three for Katakwi district.

Masaba said that the Amuria and Kapelebyong district valley tanks will have capacity of 30million litres of water each, while for Katakwi, the valley tanks will have a capacity of 50 million litres of water each.

He explained that each of the valley tanks in Katakwi is estimated to cost 750 million shillings while others are costed at an average of 500 million shillings each. He adds that the works at Aleles village valley tank in Palam sub county in Katakwi district have already commenced.

During the commissioning of the valley tanks construction in Katakwi, the district chairperson Geoffrey Omolo asked the beneficiaries to utilize the project to improve on the household income. He said that the project was timely to save the district from flooding that has affected thousands of households in the district.
